The First Daytime Adventure

After meeting with Florencio to settle important matters, like how to turn on the music and the TV, it was time to find our way out of the hills, back over the detour, escape the topes, avoid the wandering dogs and use the car in the daytime.  Life on the mountain looked a lot better in the daytime, than at 11:00 p.m. last night.  By the way, you can’t believe how calm and cool I was while wandering in the wilderness.  I had resolved to let events just happen.  Not a single argument with wonder woman in the car!

So today, our first task was to stock the casa with loads of food.  We were off to Bodega Aurrerá, which we discovered is the discount Mexican version of Wal-Mart.  The goal was to get essentials, like Margarita mix, tequila, cervezas and all the good things needed for a well rounded diet.  The drive to the Supermercado went just fine, although topes every 100 yards are such a pain!  We rounded the glorietta, viewed Benito Juarez from the front, and discovered that the reason we nearly missed him last night was that there is a huge tree blocking the view when coming from the south, so you do not see the statue until you are right beside it.

We were at the grocery store for a couple of hours, and finally had to leave when the cart got so heavy I could hardly push it any more.  Must have been all the beer and water!  We are always pleased to find that these supermercados accept credit cards so you don’t have to pay in cash.  You surely don’t want to use up all your pesos the second day in Mexico.  After returning to the casa and unloading and putting away all the food we decided one excursion (adventure) is enough when on vacation.  Time for a siesta!  We will hit the zona central manana.

Quirky Living Note

Bus lane on the carretara – Public transportation is a big deal here.  Along the four lane road from our casa (the highway south to Oaxaca) you are dodging taxis and buses all the way into the central zone.  The outer lane is where these vehicles stop on signal from someone on the side.  Who knows the destination of these buses!  I guess you have to be a local.  The exciting thing is if you are in this lane you really have to keep alert to the stopping and starting.
